Tasting notes

Colour: pale gold with green tints.
Nose: aromas of white flesh fruits (peach), citrus.
Palate: full mouth with fruity flavours such as peach. A generous wine offering a beautiful strength and a mineral frame.

Wine and food pairing

It is a very pleasant wine as a aperitif. Will also be a great companion to all fish, snails, oysters, white meats, mixed salads and goat's cheese.

Serving temperature

Serve ideally at a temperature of 12 to 14°C (53-57 °F).

Origin

The Pouilly-Fuissé appellation is situated in the south of the Maconnais’ vineyards. It spreads across the villages of Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, Vergisson, and Chaintré.

As soon as the incline increases, in the south of Mâcon, around the renowned rocks of Vergisson and Solutré, the vineyard of Pouilly-Fuissé, on clay-limestone soil from the Jurassic era, entirely covers the abrupt hills on little parcels of steep slopes. The harvest is of approximately 40 000 hl for 761 hectares of vines.

On banks of crinoidal limestone, the vineyard lies on the sides and at the base of the rocks on gravelly scree and clay-limestone soils dating back to the Jurassic period. Note also the clay soils on a granitic bedrock in the westernmost part of the appellation.

Steep incline/Eastern, south-eastern exposure/Altitude of 200 m to 350 m.

Vinification and maturing

Vinification and fermentation of 10 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Ageing on the lees for 10 months in vats.

Vintage : 2015

The 2015 vintage was almost perfect; the harvested grapes were very ripe and healthy. After a fairly mild Winter and Spring, we experienced an exceptional, lengthy heatwave towards the end of June. As such the vineyard work in July was limited. Some vine-leaves in certain early-growth vineyards or vineyards planted on shallow soil experienced some sunburn. There was a storm in early August which had various effects on the Burgundy vineyard. As it happens, it was very welcome as it allowed the vine to continue its natural maturity process, as excessive heat can block this. Climatic conditions remained ideal in the build-up to the harvest and allowed the vineyards to retain their impeccable healthy state while gaining full ripeness. Very little sorting was required as the grape quality was so good. The yields were inferior to 2014 but remained fairly average considering the last decade. The 2015 vintage is an undoubted success and will result in wines of great richness.
